Climate change and disaster risk management

Area focused on promoting best practices for climate action between Chile and California

We aim to promote best practices for climate action between Chile and California, with a particular focus on sustainable water management due to its essential role in human life, and soil regeneration for CO₂ capture and storage. We also seek to strengthen existing collaborations around the prevention and management of the increasing wildfires affecting both regions.

We are committed to reinforcing bilateral cooperation in disaster preparedness, response, and risk reduction. Our efforts center on the exchange of best practices, the promotion of knowledge, and the coordination of joint initiatives to enhance resilience to natural hazards common to both regions. A key goal for this year is to formalize foundational agreements—specifically, Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) between CAL FIRE and CONAF, and CAL OES and SENAPRED—which will further solidify our collaborative framework.
